The Mid North -  Saturday may 26th 2018

Screen Shot 2018-05-03 at 1.02.26 pm.png

Bellingen's own bluegrass band ,‘The Mid North’ are set to play at 5 Church St Bellingen on Saturday 26 May. This will be the first time the band have played in Bellingen for over 6 months, having spent most of the past year playing festivals and shows outside our beautiful Shire. An original member and after close to 7 years in the band,, Cath Cooper (vocals/Banjo) will play her final show. The high energy shows, touring and excessive amounts of money, tap beer and groupies has taken its toll on her and she is going to spend the next few years counting and recounting her music made fortune.

The Mid North are sure to bring the good times and their own brand of high energy Bluegrass with whooping, hollering and high speed picking, ensuring that Cath is both worn out and full of regret by the shows end!
The rest of the band will be attending individual and group therapy sessions to help them through these difficult times……….but will emerge like the Phoenix, bigger, badder, faster and more beautiful than before.
Tickets are limited so be sure to book a table today……..like right now.

Timothy james bowen -  Thursday june 7th 2018

"Timothy is the kind of singer songwriter who makes you jealous that you can’t do what he does, but intensely happy nonetheless that at least you (and the world) get to hear him do it.” - Joey Ryan, The Milk Carton Kids

Bowen’s' honest story telling, personal style of catchy folk melodies and heartfelt lyrics fuse flawlessly to create music with a rawness and intimacy rarely encountered.

The last few years have brought a whirlwind of opportunity and challenges for Bowen. He completed commissioned works for Virgin Mobile Australia and the Cancer Council, released two brand new records, was appointed as a Cancer Council Ambassador for 2017/2018, embarked on multiple national Australian tours with The Milk Carton Kids & Clare Bowen, gained cameo performances at the world renowned Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville, TN.
and had a song he co-wrote, ‘From Here On Out’, chosen for the hit U.S. TV series, ‘Nashville'.

Just weeks after recording his most popular EP to date, ’Steel & Wood', Bowen was unexpectedly diagnosed with cancer and was given just two weeks to live. In the months following this, during early 2016, he released ’Steel & Wood' to great acclaim, and returned triumphantly to the stage later that year to play alongside his sister, Clare Bowen, for her sold out Australian tour, whilst still undergoing treatment. Despite spending much of 2016/2017 in recovery, Bowen also released his most recent EP, ‘Bloom’, penned a charity single for the Cancer Council, ‘For Someone I Know’, and completed multiple national tours.

Bowen is set to record and release his debut album later this year and, given his inspiring journey and incredible ordeal, he will definitely be one to watch in 2018.

Lloyd Spiegel - Wednesday june 27th 2018

Screen Shot 2018-04-24 at 1.20.12 pm.png

Lloyd Spiegel has always forged his own path throughout his long career. A lifetime performing has seen him blend his grounding in the blues with storytelling and dazzling acoustic guitar technique to create a unique show and sound that is launching him onto festival and theatre stages around the globe as a true master of his craft.

His new album ‘Backroads’ is a hard-edged, brutally honest account of Spiegel's life outside of music and reinvents his sound for new audiences, delivering more punch in his most powerful studio performance to date.

Along with Cole Clark guitars, Lloyd designed guitars specifically for the recording and a new duo show with drummer Tim Burnham promises to deliver his biggest stage sound yet.

Says Spiegel of the new album "So much of what I've written in the past is focussed on where I'm going. Both literally and figuratively. I'm a driven person and never really paused to think about the sacrifices, what I've left behind till I sat for a moment and started writing."

"The plan to step outside of what people might expect from me, sound fresh and push harder made it feel like I had no boundaries placed on me and I had a sense of creative freedom with this one that I hadn't felt before. I hadn't really let loose with an electric guitar on record since I was a teenager.... it felt good."

The Backroads Australian Tour kicks off in June and takes in most parts of Australia.

The Album ‘Backroads’ is available for presale from April 16, and in store from May 15 through Only Blues Music.

The Firefly Column, USA

"In an age when most musicians come and go, Kuepper still stands tall as an icon of the Australian independent music scene. Over his extraordinary career, Kuepper has been a Saint, a Laughing Clown and an Aint among other things. This evening Kuepper proved that he's a national treasure."

The Saints, Laughing Clowns and solo Kuepper Klassics it’s all up for grabs. Whisper loudly and Herr Kuepper might even drop in solo versions of those great new Aints! classics.

Everything I've Got Belongs To You was played on the proviso that the audience joined in, which resulted in a sublime call-and-response chorus singalong that even seemed to leave the great man speechless for a moment. Kuepper then confirmed, with a wry smile, that he'd "never heard it quite like that before". This was followed up with the dynamic Electric Storm before Kuepper finished up his set with the first request of this evening: The Way I Made You Feel. - The Music Perth review
